Set-up Bonnet Pattern

Materials

• Circular sock machine & accessories
• Sock weight yarn (smooth, non-textured, yarn recommended)
• Waste yarn (contrasting color)
• Yarn darning needle
• Ravel Cord
  

Machine Settings

• Tension ~10 stitches per inch
• Cylinder only, no ribber
• Start with all needles in cylinder

Pattern Notes

• Instructions provided as a clock with the yarn guide moving (not the cylinder)
• Crank Crank Counter-Clockwise CCW
• 6pm is center front of Cranker

Instructions

• Install setup Bonnet/Basket
• Starting at 3pm attach waste yarn through yarn guide, 6 inches of tail inside bonnet
• Hold down on bonnet while cranking a few rows, ensure all needles have yarn on them. If it isn’t catching, ensure needle latch is open. Then pick up yarn “bar” below needle and hang on needle. 
• Attach Buckle and Weight
• Crank at least 30 rows waste yarn
• Stop at 3pm, add project yarn
• Crank 15 rows, stop at 6pm (14.75 rows)
• Start at 3pm, using pick tool, move one stitch to neighbor stitch, all the way around
  
  
• Crank 1 row, slowly, confirm each empty needle has yarn
• Crank 14 rows more, stop at 6pm (14.75 total)
• Remove weight and buckle
• Using pick tool, hang hem (line up at 3pm, use contrasting waste yarn to help identify first row of project yarn “bump” onto needle.
  
• TIP: Hold the yarn very close to the needle as to not stretch it, be careful not to split the yarn). Pull down with your hand and slowly crank forward to hang remaining stitches.
• Re-attach buckle and weight
• Crank 80 rows, stop at 3pm
• With Ravel cord, Crank 1 row, held together with project yarn
  
  
• Crank 20 rows 
• Hang ravel corded stitches on matching needles.
  
  
• Pulling down on the bonnet, crank slowly one round, stop at 3pm (make sure stitch before 3pm, is latched) 
• Break yarn with a tail equal to 3 times the cylinder
• Bind Off – Attach yarn to a darning needle, go up from the bottom, catching the stitch, repeat once more.
   
• Take stitch off needle. Repeat all the way around.
• Take bonnet off machine, wrap remaining yarn around a few stitches and guide extra yarn a few inches in hem, cut. 
• Remove Ravel cord and waste yarn.
• Hand wash, lay flat to dry and block using sewing pins to “set” picot stitch or hang to dry on your CSM.
